The orchestra comprises 44 young musicians. Its repertoire is drawn from the works of the Baroque and Classical period , with excursions into chamber works of the twentieth century. Programmes are usually chosen to provide suitable solo opportunities for orchestral members (although in 2009 they departed from this norm when ACO played with its patron , the internationally renowned cellist Alexander Baillie).
Although based in Birmingham, the opportunity to play in this small chamber orchestra is open to any young person of secondary age in the 'greater West Midlands'. Entry is by audition, held once a year in the last week of June . For further information about auditions, please contact us.
The orchestra meets on Friday evenings, and works on each programme for around 8 rehearsals - culminating in one or more performances in Birmingham and neighbouring venues.
Whether or not you have children who might aspire to join this group at some stage, we hope you can come and enjoy quality music making in a uniquely friendly atmosphere.
